YouthWorks!/YLT                                                           YouthWorks! Brochure

YouthWorks! is designed to help youth considered at-risk – those with disabilities and other risk factors that might affect their employment opportunities – acquire the skills necessary to transition from school to employment and become independent, productive members of society.

YouthWorks! utilizes career-oriented academic programming, experiential learning opportunities, and community partnerships to help these students achieve this goal.

Since 1996, Goodwill has been working with school districts and other community organizations to provide this opportunity to youth ages 15-21, in order to help them avoid long-term dependency.

Goodwill relies on grants, store donations, and the generous support of community members to fund our award-winning YouthWorks! program.

The Vision of YouthWorks!

The YouthWorks! program envisions a generation of youth who possess the skills, values, and connections needed to become capable, independent, and actively engaged members of the community.

The Mission of YouthWorks!

The YouthWorks! program utilizes career-oriented academic programming, experiential learning opportunities, and community partnerships to help “at-risk” youth develop the skills, values, and connections they need to overcome their barriers and become independent, productive adults in the community.

Youth Leadership Training (YLT) (Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities (TCDD))

Through TCDD YLT was integrated as a component to the YouthWorks! Program. Students can complete the YouthWorks! and YLT Programs, or just the individual YLT component. Through YLT students explore issues related to the rights of people with disabilities, such as advocacy and the origins and history of disability rights. Students also explore communication skills, leadership skills, assistive technology, self-determination, and college and career planning.
